about

When Stuart and I were teens playing bluegrass in Southern California in the 1970s, there were no taller figures than Byron Berline and John Hickman. Losing them both in 2021, within months of each other, was a shock. I wrote this banjo/fiddle tune as a thank you note to two bluegrass titans, inspired loosely by a duet they used to play called “Birmingham Fling”. A tip of the hat to Eddie Stubbs for the title and to Stuart for the excellent barnyard impressions.
